Saunders Fieldhouse at Mesa State College
Grand Junction , CO
This 31,000 sf renovation of interior space and
37,000 sf addition of athletic and recreational
space was completed 1996 at a total cost of
$5,968,822. The structure is comprised of 225
piles approximately 60' deep, pile caps and grade
beams, and composite design structural slabs
supported by structural steel with all steel
framing, bar joists and metal deck. Utility
systems included a 4-pipe hydronic Trane system
(DDCs) and central boiler system. The project
included the gymnasium, racquetball courts,
whirlpool area, dance and fitness areas, an
18’ AFF cantilevered and elevated running track,
weight training area, locker rooms, showers,
laundry, a lab, and faculty facilities, as well as
the 50’ clock tower. Construction was
multi-phased to accommodate occupied spaces.
