Roaring Fork Transit Authority Operations Center
Glenwood Springs , CO

This new bus maintenance and shop facility for the Roaring Fork Transit Authority was built on a 35-acre site that required extensive sitework and major infrastructure improvements in order to accommodate the new building on the 10-15% slope of the land.     It was a team effort from FCI, the Owner and Architect from the beginning of the design to create a useful and efficient facility while still fitting into the mountain surroundings.  The structure is steel framing and CMU bearing walls on a spread footing foundation.  The special systems of this building include underground fuel and waste tanks, an indoor bus washing and fluid replenishment system, and infrared heating within the bus bays.  As the project progressed, and savings were realized, the Owner chose to add a 3,200 square foot, covered bus shelter to the project.  By the completion of the construction, FCI was able to return over $160,000 to the Owner in unused funds.
