Murphy Creek K-8 School
Aurora, CO
This new K-8 for Aurora Public Schools began in July of 2004 and reached completion in June 2005. The 78,000 square foot facility has a projected enrollment of 531 students at opening, growing to 1052 students projected for 2008 with the continued growth of the area east of E-470 and south of Sixth Ave.
This highly anticipated addition to the community is part of the 2002 bond issue for APS, and one of two new K-8 schools being paid for from the $225 million approved by voters. The masonry and steel structure consists of three classroom pods surrounding the common-use areas such as the gym, kitchen and library. It sits on 318 drilled piers with a mechanical crawlspace. The exterior is split- and smooth-face block with stucco accents. The roof is built-up and asphalt shingles.
