Bookcliff Middle School
Grand Junction, CO
This new 95,000 square foot, single-story school for the Mesa County Valley School District was a packaged contract with the similar new Fruita 8/9 School. The Bookcliff School is a load-bearing masonry and steel structure on a concrete footing and round steel pile foundation system. This school was the largest project included in the District’s bond program, and required an existing school to be demolished prior to the new construction being complete. A new 11,300 square foot City gymnasium with soccer and football fields was added to the site after demolition. The site work involved development of 19.5 acres including parking areas and extensive landscaping. Construction of the new school, and demolition of the old school, took just 12 months.
