Hurst Hall Science Complex at Western State College
Gunnison, CO
FCI served as the CM/GC for the construction of this $12 million, 84,900 sf phased project. Phase I, completed in August 2000, was a 45,900 sf addition which included 3 levels of labs with fume hoods, classrooms, lecture halls and a greenhouse. FCI recommended a dual structural system with cast-in-place concrete up to the third floor deck, with structural steel for the roof. This provided the stiff floors the owner needed for sensitive equipment while saving time and money over single structural systems. Phase II was a complete interior demolition and remodel of the existing 39,000 sf science building. This work was completed in June 2001.
